54Long Service Leave
54.1 Full-time Time employees Employees will accrue 1.3 weeks long service leave for each completed year of service, which they will be eligible to access after ten 10 years of continuous service. Part-Time Employees accrue long service leave on a pro-rata basis..
54.2 Casual employees Employees are entitled to long service leave in accordance with the relevant legislation.who have continuous service, in accordance with the relevant legislation, are entitled to pro-rata the full-time entitlement after ten (10) years of continuous service.
54.3 Long service leave is exclusive of public holidays, rostered days off and non-working days for employees with a flexible work arrangement. Long service leave is exclusive of rostered days off for Full-Time Employees and Part-Time Employees who are Continuous Shiftworkers or Shiftworkers.
54.4 Unless otherwise approved by the University, eEmployees will be entitled to take:
a. One (1)1 to four (4)4 weeks' leave on three (3)3 months’ notice.
b. More than four (4)4 weeks’ leave on six (6)6 months’ notice.
54.4A notice period may be waived by the Head of the Organisational Unit.
54.5 Subject to operational requirements and clauses X and X, as far as reasonably practicable, long service leave should be taken at a time which is convenient to the employee.
54.55 An employee may also apply to cash out an equivalent a period of long service leave equivalent to the period of long service leave approved to be taken, to be paid at the time of taking the leave, on a fortnightly basis, during the period of leave.
54.65 An employee may request to take their long service leave at half-pay and, subject to operational requirements, such request shall not be unreasonably refused.
54.76A request by an employee to cancel long service leave will only be approved by the University in exceptional circumstances.
54.8 Direction to take Long long Service service Leaveleave:
a. Where an employee has more than fifteen (15) weeks of long service leave accrued, they may be directed to take up to four (4) weeks of long service leave(pro-rata for Part-Time Employees).
b. Where the University directs an employee to take long service leave, the Supervisor will:
(i) discuss the timing of the leave with the employee allowing the employee, subject to operational requirements, an opportunity to take an appropriate amount of leave at a time convenient to the employee;
(ii) allow the employee to take leave in one or more blocks if the employee wishes to do so; and
(iii) provide the employee with at least three months written notice reasonable notice of the leave to be taken.
c. Where the University makes such a direction, the employee may request (and the University may agree) for part or all of the directed long service leave to be cashed out, except where an employee applies to cancel the leave and approval is granted by the University.
