7.X.   “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) means a machine-based system that learns patterns from data to perform tasks and make predictions, recommendations, decisions and generate content, including written and visual material, based on patterns or algorithmic methods. 

AI Principles

1. The parties acknowledge that artificial intelligence (AI) systems may be utilised in the course of University operations. 

2. There University AI systems are deployed the University will take reasonable steps to ensure that: 

   a. they are used in an ethical manner that is compliant with applicable laws and University policies.; 

   b. data collected, processed or analysed by UQ AI systems in relation to an employee's creative or scholarly work will be in accordance with the University's data protection and privacy; and 

   c. AI systems are not used in a manner resulting in the misappropriation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge, heritage, or intellectual property. 

3. The University will ensure employees are upskilled in the use of AI, where relevant. 

4. Organisational changes arising from the impacts of AI systems will be managed in accordance with clause X (Organisational Change). 

5. Any matters about the University's use of AI systems may be raised by either party through the relevant Consultative Committee during the term of this Agreement.
