X.X Volunteer Leave
a. Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without personal gain. It should directly or indirectly benefit people outside the employee’s family or household or benefit a cause.
b. To be eligible for volunteer leave, the activity must:
(i) align with the University’s values and Staff Code of Conduct;
(ii) not conflict with the employee’s employment obligations; and
(iii) be undertaken on a voluntary basis, and no payment, remuneration or compensation is to be received by the employee.
c. Full-Time employees are entitled to 14.5 hours of paid volunteer leave per year (pro-rata for Part-Time Employees).
d. Casual Employees are entitled to 14.5 hours of unpaid volunteer leave per year.
e. Volunteer leave may be accessed to perform volunteer work for an organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for Profit’s Commission.
f. Access to volunteer leave is subject to operational requirements and must be approved in advance.
g. The employee will be required to provide the University with reasonable evidence that the leave is being used for activities which are consistent with this clause.
h. Volunteer leave:
(i) may be taken in periods of less than one day;
(ii) is non-cumulative;
(iii) will not accrue from year to year; and
(iv) will not be paid out on termination.
