50 Compassionate Leave
50.1 Continuing and Fixed-term employees are entitled to three (3) days of paid compassionate leave and up to five (5) days of unpaid compassionate leave for each occasion when:for the purpose of
a. a member of the employee’s immediate family or a member of the employee’s household:
(i) contracts or develops a personal illness or sustains a personal injury that poses a serious threat to their life; or
(ii) sustains a personal injury that poses a serious threat to their life; or
(iii) dies; or
b. a child is stillborn, where the child would have been a member of the employee’s immediate family, or a member of the employee’s household, if the child had been born alive; or
c. the employee, or the employee’s spouse or de facto partner, has a miscarriage.
50.2 Casual Employees are entitled to 2 days of unpaid compassionate leave for each of the above occasions.
50.3 spending time with a person who is a member of the employee’s immediate family or household and has a personal illness, or injury, that poses a serious threat to his or her life, or after the death of a member of the employee’s immediate family or household. This compassionate leave entitlement also extends to members of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community or where a recognised cultural relationship exists.
50.4 The University may require evidence that the leave is for the purpose set out in this clause.
Casual employees are entitled to two (2) days unpaid leave.
