Members have continuously complained about the investigations carried out by the Integrity Unit, which some have likened to a star chamber.</p></li><li style="font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:15px;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">They propose to <strong>open up teaching associate positions to external advertisement</strong> rather than conversion of existing casual staff. Our experience of previous schemes that are opened up to external applicants is that internal applicants never get a look in. This would defeat the whole purpose of the teaching associate conversion process.</p></li></ul><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">We also have concerns around their claim to l<strong>ock staff into an Agreement for 4 years</strong> from certification (potentially until the end of 2030) in an incredibly uncertain global environment, their proposal to <strong>“simplify” professional staff span of hours and flexible work arrangements</strong> and their claim for <strong>greater flexibility to direct staff to take “excess leave”</strong>.</p><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;height:1.618em;margin-bottom:0;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"></p>

Several NTEU bargaining reps spoke to the issue, the history of the entitlement and the impact that removing it has had on the good will of staff. Management’s response tied the issue to excess leave balances, a link we rejected strongly. They were not willing to provide us with a response at the table, indicating that it would need to be considered with other leave and financial considerations. Disappointing!</p></li><li style="font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:15px;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Your reps outlined the rationale for our claim for <strong>improved union rights</strong>, particularly time release for workplace reps in recognition of the work we are already doing in our workplaces to represent members and assist them through sometimes challenging university processes. Management acknowledged the key role that workplace reps play and will provide a more substantive response at the next meeting.</p></li><li style="font-weight:normal;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:15px;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><p class="" style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;line-height:1.618em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">Management <strong>rejected our proposal to include an entitlement in the Agreement to sabbaticals for academic staff</strong>. Their view was that this was not an Agreement matter and that the AEP program is working effectively. They did accept that there may be some need to review the travel aspects of the program.</p></li></ul><p style="color:inherit;font-size:.9375em;margin:0 0 1.25em 0;font-weight:normal;font-family:'DejaVu Sans Condensed', 'Liberation Sans', 'Nimbus Sans L', 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;line-height:18pt;margin-top:0cm;margin-bottom:0cm;" class="">Altogether a mixed start to the actual bargaining. There were
some positives to take away, but not a lot of progress. Talk to your local
delegate/workplace rep about how to get involved in the bargaining campaign to
