Management’s claims!27 March 2026 At today’s bargaining meeting, UQ management representatives provided us with more detail about their proposed log of claims. Three key areas of concern were: Management claim that the duration of organisational change processes can be disproportionately lengthy to the change proposed and they propose to have the ability to reduce the time frames for consultation at their discretion. They propose to be able to move to an investigation into claims of misconduct or serious misconduct prior to engaging the formal processes and protections of the enterprise agreement. Members have continuously complained about the investigations carried out by the Integrity Unit, which some have likened to a star chamber. They propose to open up teaching associate positions to external advertisement rather than conversion of existing casual staff. Our experience of previous schemes that are opened up to external applicants is that internal applicants never get a look in. This would defeat the whole purpose of the teaching associate conversion process.
We also have concerns around their claim to lock staff into an Agreement for 4 years from certification (potentially until the end of 2030) in an incredibly uncertain global environment, their proposal to “simplify” professional staff span of hours and flexible work arrangements and their claim for greater flexibility to direct staff to take “excess leave”.
