How do I notify that I’m participating in a strike?When a union member takes part in a ‘stop work’ (that is, a ‘strike’ - which is when a worker withdraws their labour entirely for a period of time), they must notify their employer after they take this action***. You are NOT required to notify your manager prior to undertaking strike action. If you take part in the strike on 8 September, after you go back to work, you need to report that action. For full time and part time workers - go to Workday, then go to Menu: My Absence. Select ‘Request Absence’, then choose the date from the calendar (8 September). For ‘Type of Absence’, select ‘Unpaid and Leave Without Pay’. Then pick ‘Absent to Undertake Strike Action’. Scroll down to enter the total number of hours that you were on strike (what you put down is totally up to you! We are asking members to take a half day from 1pm on Tuesday — so however many hours that works out for you, put that down). Please note, however, that the action officially ends at 11.59pm on Tuesday night. Under the ‘comment’ section, feel free to put a nice little ‘Solidarity with the workers!' or ‘The workers, united, will never be defeated!’ For casual workers, please log into CAHP (casual academic) or MyAurion (casual professional workers), and report any missed hours that you would have otherwise worked. *** Note: your employer cannot legally pay you for the period that you undertake strike action. So your wages will be docked for the time that you withdrew that labour.
